FAQ - Frequently asked questions

How can I become an exchange student at the Sahlgrenska academy?

At the Sahlgrenska Academy we receive exchange students every semester for courses, clinical placements or thesis projects. Please note there must be a formal exchange agreement between the student's home university and the Sahlgrenska Academy in order for us to be able to accept the student as an exchange student.

All our agreements with our partners are listed in our database.

I have been nominated by my home univeristy, what is the next step?

All nominated students must apply online. The online application opens 6-8 weeks prior to deadline date.

  • Deadline to apply for autumn semester is 15th of May.
  • Deadline to apply for spring semester is 15th of November.

When can I expect to receive a Letter of Acceptance to know I am accepted?

You can usually accept a letter of acceptance within a month after deadline depending on work load. In your acceptance letter you will find dates for your stay and can book accommodation and flights accordingly.

Who can I contact if I have any questions?

Sahlgrenska Academy International Office (SAIO) has got four international coordinators working with exchange students.

How do I apply for housing?

The demand for housing in Gothenburg is very high and it is therefore important to take note of our application deadlines. You will receive information on how to apply for housing when filling out online application.

I applied to live with my friend whilst studying in Gothenburg but we got accommodation offers in different locations, what should we do?

Student housing is responsible for accommodation to all our incoming international students. Although, we wish we could give all students their first choice there is unfortunately limitations in the number of rooms/apartments in Gothenburg.

If you are lucky to receive an accommodation offer, a strong recommendation is to accept it!

I did not get an accommodation offer, what should I do?

Due to high demand, student and campus housing for all exchange students cannot be guaranteed. Please note that most of our exchange students find housing before semester starts.

Read the housing guide for international students to get some valuable tips.
