About the programme

The Pharmacy programme at Sahlgrenska Academy is a five year Master programme corresponding to 300 higher education credits. There is intake of approximately 80 students once a year (autumn).

The studies are focused on, among other subjects, chemistry, cell biology, physiology, pharmacology and pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical outcomes research. The programme thus comprises biomedical oriented subjects, such as the functions of the body, pathology and pharmaceutical treatment of diseases.

A large part of the course literature is in English. Most of the courses are examined with a written or oral examination.

The full programme is offered in Swedish and English courses/research placements are only offered to partner university students.

Courses for Pharmacy students

  • International partner students can choose/combine courses below depending on length and needs from partner university. Please note course offer may vary from year to year.
  • Semester 1-7 are taught in Swedish.
  • Semester 8 is taught in English with many elective courses in Pharmacy to choose from. Each elective course is 5 weeks and worth 7,5 higher education credits.
  • International exchange students can also take part in lab work/thesis projects (3-6 months).
  • Nordic students with Swedish language skills are welcome to take part in other courses offered in Swedish.
  • An interprofessional faculty course, Multicultural encounters and intercultural communication in healthcare, is offered in English each spring for interested exchange students (evening and part-time) in addition to above.

Term 9 (autumn and spring)

It is possible for partner students to study at Sahlgrenska Academy for 3-6 months to collect data for your final thesis or project work. You will be appointed an English speaking supervisor and participate in his/her lab/research group.

You will be admitted to a course of 15 or 30 higher education credits, depending on work load/study plan.

Requests from freemovers

Unfortunately, we have no possibility accepting freemover* applicants to courses and clinical placements.

*A freemover is an international student who applies to a university abroad on his/her own, without beeing part of an exchange programme.
