Dental Hygiene Programme student tells all

Majastina Eriksson will soon be a graduate dental hygienist. She will also soon travel to South Africa for work placement and her degree project.

"I realised that it is fun to learn new things. Many of our lecturers are specialists and love their subject, which has an impact. Choosing dental hygiene as a profession has felt right all along."

She had actually not intended to continue her studies and felt it would be too much. She began to work, but missed having a job with routines, good working hours and independence.

"Having one's own patients is very challenging and I want to work where I feel that my work is meaningful, not just in the mouth but for the whole person."

She wanted a profession where she could work anywhere in the world, with a salary or as a volunteer.

"Now I am looking forward to finishing the programme and beginning to work at one of the public dental care clinics in Gothenburg. But first, I am going to travel away to do my work placement and degree project in the slum areas in Cape Town with two girls from the class."
