Information to supervisors, administrators, heads of institutes and directors of PhD studies

Third-cycle education at the Sahlgrenska Academy is conducted within five PhD subjects - Pharmaceutical science, Basic medicine, Medical science, Odontological science and Health care sciences.

The education gives doctoral students knowledge of the doctoral subject, knowledge in research methods and research experience. The doctoral studies consist of a theoretical part with third-cycle courses and a thesis. The third-cycle studies contain 240 credits (equivalent to four years of full-time study) and are intended to conclude with a doctoral degree.

These web pages contain information that is primarily intended for people who are supervisors or administrators in third-cycle studies at the Sahlgrenska Academy.

Advice for doctoral supervisors

Being a doctoral supervisor involves a responsibility to support a doctoral candidate in writing a thesis, but it also involves a long-term personal relationship with the candidate. The website of the unit for Pedagogical Development and Interactive Learning (PIL) draws attention to situations that doctoral supervisors may encounter.
