Sahlgrenska Visiting Professorship

In 2017 a programme for guest professor starts at the Sahlgrenska Academy - Sahlgrenska Visiting Professorship. The programme funds costs up to 1 million SEK per guest professor visiting the Sahlgrenska Academy, for a period of one to three years, part-time.

The aim of this five year strategic programme is to stimulate exchange of high international quality. A number of guest professors will be appointed at part-time employments.

The programme will be announced twice during the five year period: 2017 and 2019. The announcement for 2017 is open January 30 to March 15.

This ambitious programme requires an active recruitment process. A researcher at the Sahlgrenska Academy can nominate an international researcher to Sahlgrenska Visiting Professorship. The official nomination, on behalf of the institute will be done by the head (prefekt). The proposed Visting Guest Professor need to have a strong foundation in a research group at the Sahlgrenska Academy.

What the nomination should contain:

Concerning the nominee:

  • CV of the nominee, including current position
  • Complete publication list and ten selected scientific publications
  • Description of previous and current activities, both within research and education (see Academic Portfolios)
  • Description of the planned research collaboration (i.e. research plan), max 3 pages


Concerning activities at the Sahlgrenska Academy:

  • Background and reasons for the nomination, containing a description of the research environment where the visiting professor will be active and the added value for the Sahlgrenska Academy
  • Expected result, for instance joint application of grants, clinical collaboration, exchange with other research groups at the Sahlgrenska Academy
  • Budget for the whole period, including possible added co-founding from the institute
  • Certificate stating that the nominee is asked, and has agreed to become a guest professor at the Sahlgrenska Academy
  • Letter of Intent from the institute, signed by the head (prefekt) in support of the nomination


The nomination should be sent in as one (1) pdf file, from the head of the institute to HR officer Åsa Carlström (asa.carlstrom@gu.se) no later than March 15, 2017.

Time table and process

Sahlgrenska Visiting Professorship programme follows the Appointment procedure for the appointment of teachers at the University of Gothenburg and the recruitment process at the Sahlgrenska Academy LINK.

The Vice-Chancellor decides on the formal appointment.

  1. Nomination period, January 30 – March 15, 2017
  2. External expert evaluation, March – April 2017
  3. Academic Appointments Board (for evaluation of formal competence for the position), May 2017
  4. Review – Councils for Research and Internationalisation, End May 2017
  5. Decision by the Dean, Mid-June 2017
  6. Formal appointment of the Vice-Chancellor, End June 2017
