  • Newly appointed honorary doctor at Sahlgrenska Academy

    [2 Jun 2020] Professor Bo Håkansson of Chalmers University of Technology has been awarded an honorary doctorate in medicine by Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg.

  • Four of ten adults worldwide have functional gastrointestinal disorders

    [27 May 2020] For every ten adults in the world, four suffer from functional gastrointestinal disorders of varying severity. This is shown by a study of more than 73,000 people in 33 countries. University of Gothenburg scientists are among those now presenting these results.

  • Patients who had been waiting in operation queue died earlier

    [25 May 2020] Early surgery improved both outcome and survival in patients with the neurological condition hydrocephalus, while mortality was higher in those who had to wait, according to a thesis from the University of Gothenburg. These results add to pressure on efforts to keep waiting lists for surgery short.


  • Women at lower risk for cardiovascular disease than men

    [22 May 2020] Women's risk of falling ill with cardiovascular disease, and dying from it, is lower than that of men of the same age, irrespective of where in the world they live. This is shown by a study of, in total, more than 160,000 men and women in 27 countries. Scientists at the University of Gothenburg are now among those presenting the results.

We are especially proud of our Nobel Prize Laureate Arvid Carlsson, who's discovery of the dopamine's important role in the brain was made in our campus at Medicinareberget.
